What This Article Covers
This article explains what happens — step by step — when you ask us to cancel your website hosting, whether you are moving to a new company or closing your business.
Before You Start
- Send us a cancellation request through your support ticket or by emailing support@37solutions.com.
- Let us know if you are moving your website to a new company, or if the website is shutting down for good. This affects a few steps below.
- Note that website hosting and email hosting are two separate services. If you also need to cancel your email, we will open a second support request to handle that separately.
What We Do After You Request Cancellation
Once you let us know you'd like to cancel, here is what happens:
-
We open a cancellation ticket.
We create a dedicated support request to track every step of your offboarding. Nothing gets missed.
-
We take a final backup of your website.
We make a fresh, complete copy of your website files and database before we shut anything down.
-
We verify the backup is good.
We open the backup and confirm it contains everything — your pages, images, posts, and data. We do not skip this step.
-
We review your account for any email services.
If you have email accounts hosted with us (like you@yourdomain.com), we will open a separate support request to handle those. Email and website hosting are shut down through different processes, so each one gets its own ticket.
-
We send a final invoice.
We review your account for any outstanding balance and send a final invoice. For current details about our refund and billing policies, visit 37solutions.com/legal.
-
We shut down the website.
Once the backup is confirmed and the final invoice is sent, we remove your website from our servers.
-
We update your domain name settings to reduce spam.
If we manage your domain name settings (called DNS — the settings that control where your website and email point), we will update two security records called SPF and DKIM. These changes tell the internet that no one is authorized to send email from your domain anymore, which helps prevent spammers from impersonating your old address.
-
We share your backup and account details with you.
We send you a download link for your website backup. If your domain name settings are managed through us and you are moving to a new host, we will send those to you as well so your new company can get everything set up.
If You Are Closing Your Business
If your business is shutting down, there are a few extra things worth knowing before you let your domain name expire.
Keep paying for your domain name for at least one more year.
Even after your website is gone, your domain name is still tied to accounts you may have forgotten about. Banks, social media platforms, and other online services often send a verification code to your email address when you log in. If your domain has expired and someone else has registered it, you could lose access to those accounts permanently. Keeping your domain active for at least 12 months after closing gives you time to update those accounts to a personal email address.
Consider registering your domain for 10 years.
When a domain expires, anyone can buy it — including spammers. A spammer who buys your old domain name can send emails that look like they came from your business, or set up a website that confuses your former customers. Registering your domain for 10 years at a time is an inexpensive way to protect your brand and keep that from happening.
Need Help Moving to a New Host?
If you are moving your website or email to another hosting provider and would like our help with the transition, we can assist — just ask. Migration services are billed at our standard hourly rate.
How to Know It's Done
You will receive an email from us with your website backup attached or linked. That email confirms your website has been taken offline and your hosting account is closed. After that, no further charges will be made for website hosting.
Common Questions
- How long does the cancellation process take?
Usually 3 to 5 business days from the time you request cancellation. We will keep you updated along the way.
- Will I get a refund for the time left on my plan?
Please visit 37solutions.com/legal for our current refund and billing policies.
- What if I need my website transferred to a new hosting company?
Let us know when you request cancellation. We will deliver your backup in a format your new host can import, and we can provide your domain name settings if needed. We can also handle the full migration for you — fees apply.
- What happens to my email?
Email is handled separately from your website. If you need to cancel email hosting as well, let us know and we will open a second support request to walk through that process with you.
- What happens to my domain name?
We do not own your domain — you do. If your domain is registered at GoDaddy, Namecheap, or another registrar, it stays in your account and is not affected by this process. See the section above about why you should keep renewing it even after your website is gone.
