If we ask you to share a password with us, please do not send it by email or text message (SMS).
Why not email or SMS?
Email and text messages often remain stored in multiple places, including inboxes, sent folders, backups, phones, tablets, desktops, and security or filtering systems. That means your password may stay accessible much longer than intended.
A one-time secure link is better because it reduces how long the password remains available and avoids leaving it sitting in a normal email or text conversation. Password.link describes its links as one-time links that become invalid after they are opened. It also states that data is encrypted in the browser before being sent. Important
Unless we specifically ask otherwise, please put only the password in the password.link box.
Do not include any of the following:
- Username
- Email address
- Website address
- Login page URL
- Notes or instructions
- Security question answers
- MFA or verification codes
- Recovery codes
- Anything else related to the account
Why should you include only the password?
Password.link is a third-party service, not one of our own services. We use it because it is safer than plain email or SMS, but we do not control the full pipeline.
For that reason, we want to limit what is placed into that box. If you share only the password, and nothing else, the information is far less useful by itself. Without the username, website, login page, codes, or other account details, a third party has much less they can act on.
In other words: keeping the password separate from the rest of the login information reduces risk.
We are working on an in-house version so we have full control over the process, but it is not ready yet.

One more important note
These links can only be opened once, so please do not test the link yourself after creating it. If you open it first, we may not be able to retrieve the password. Password.link states that one-time links become invalid after they have been accessed.
In some cases, your quarantine or email security system may automatically “click” the link before we do. If that happens, we will provide another way to share your password.
