We often get questions about domain registration and renewals—especially when it’s time to move or renew your domain. Here’s everything you need to know about how we handle domains and why.
🛑 Why We Don’t Register or Renew Your Domain for You
We do not register or renew domain names on behalf of clients.
Here’s why:
-
Ownership: Your domain is one of your business’s most valuable assets. You should always be the listed owner—not us, your web developer, or your IT consultant.
-
Control: If something happened to us (for example, a medical emergency or accident), you could lose access to your domain. We never want to be a single point of failure.
-
Liability: If we registered your domain and our payment method failed or was misused, it could create serious issues—for both of us.
✅ What We Can Help With
Even though we don’t register domains directly, we’re happy to assist in the following ways:
Review your current registrar setup
We’ll help you log in, verify your domain contact details, and fix any outdated info that could result in losing access.
Assist with transfers to more affordable registrars
GoDaddy and Network Solutions often charge $35–$50/year for something that should cost ~$10. We recommend:
- Namecheap for your primary domain (best support)
- Cloudflare for any secondary domains (lowest cost)
Registrars you should avoid
These registrars are in decline, have poor support, or are generally awful to work with:
- Network Solutions
- GoDaddy
- HostGator
- BlueHost
Separate registrar and DNS management
Even if you keep your registrar, we recommend moving DNS to Cloudflare. It’s faster, more secure, and gives us the ability to help you without giving up your control.
Set up and configure:
- Cloudflare DNS (including SPF, DKIM, and DMARC email security records)
- Domain transfer steps
- Registrar accounts with correct contact info
- Secure login and recovery email practices
Ongoing monitoring or reminders
We’ll help keep track of when your domains are due for renewal and notify you when it’s time to take action.
💳 You Stay In Control (Billing and Access)
-
You must maintain a valid credit card on file with your domain registrar.
-
We do not pay for client domains or attach them to our billing systems.
-
If needed, we can guide you through using a personal or business card securely in your own account.
💵 Cost for Assistance
Our support for registrar access, Cloudflare setup, DNS configuration, and related help is billed at $75/hour. The process takes 1-2 hours and depends heavily on your ability to give us access to your account(s).
🔐 Email Address Tip
Use a permanent email address for your domain accounts (like a business Gmail address or a different domain that you control). Avoid temporary ones like:
-
Work addresses that may get deactivated
-
College/university emails
-
Shared or third-party managed inboxes
This ensures you’ll always be able to renew, transfer, or recover access to your domain.
